I am so excited to get out of Paris because i can only have the city life for so long. i am not really like a big city person i have realized, but its okay. I LOVE Paris. But we walked for about an hour trying to find one and getting directions from french people. But we finally found it on our own... not from the help of the directions. But i got it and then about an hour later saibra, maria, annita, jonathan, chhavi, and i arrived in Disneyland park!

It was so much more pink than the one in LA and with more flowers and beauty that it looked fake. It was so cute i seriously couldn't contain my excitement. Main street was called U.S.A. just like the original. All of the rides were very short lines because i guess Europe hasn't found out how awesome Disneyland is. But it was great, there is no other way to describe my excitement rather than my pictures.

Although it rained, we stuck through it and watched the fireworks and then got home at midnight, which leads me to where i am now.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-66925253349460457862011-07-15T12:58:00.000-07:002011-07-19T07:26:14.302-07:00FAIL.<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeQ4wYzvBjQTw7kmthraLCkbJv1tapAOG0kFqfJkmnOh4GUR92jdZuGQUfkLMWFl6fVxrNy9YnL3j5qOHvB8TxHyu-rrNDRoL87Q1iN4yD1y2ctEu0BX3kjIsK-k3onMhyphenhyphenwV6Fjv500hg/s320/museos+005.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631068917998861298" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-IQLAqyAi-u2FgbrJKdULApUAxivxJ29ivoCVM4jqh1U3W1iBKb01gfKmPERjh8Mry4Z8acObvl0vUCs1CanToiSd3ethLsaPuUe6uBgQXMdkFeO82ievlAz03cJGCaqXrBeYm86tB_0/s320/museos+036.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631068913554114018" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYSltv-DGsW0ZsO3m2EaExcsBNuM_f231XhCzW0c7x1U3vbe97_khZ9CQp7nS741srsQDTwyND6YWW7TeSCvRJGA3oDkvHvMvNITqq_gHiG249-JPU25FKO8Zz1j0pdjagSKSWf4LJaCM/s320/museos+008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631068907317573730" />
At the moment i am in my room in the early morning of the 16th but for me it is still technically. Today i woke up pretty late because we stayed out for the independence day. But i got ready and we decided to go the Orangarie museum near the Louvre and the gardens. It was a smallest museum i have visited so far, with only 2 stories and a modern feeling on the inside despite the Renaissance look on the outside.

One of the rooms were really cool, or actually two rooms of the huge paintings of water lilies. The same one that were featured in the Midnight and Paris movie! it was very cool to see a place that had been in a movie that i saw recently. Afterward we were tired so we took the metro back home.

I took a nap and then said back to the Australians and then got ready to go out. However a lot of people wanted to go so the total was about 25 people walking the streets of Paris. But we were denied entree because we had to many people. SO we tried to go somewhere else but couldn't so we just walked home. so lame and embarrassing. We are in Paris and we couldn't find a place to go out on a Friday night, such a fail.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-40719590873373814532011-07-14T02:09:00.000-07:002011-07-19T05:55:04.190-07:00Crazyness of Paris<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQF3Kzc_6vYH_6sj3_rmQ4KT_BozfHoYkULceKQUk4IVIKhEmwlCsYHaoBzQ8Dh8iDo6d4NHAWZT2v6Wy_5VIV1Ob4t4UuzVKB9xqqL4RVFUq7QClu8Xf5ge_HmOciTzio-IJK_zay5AA/s320/Bastille+Day+061.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631045982234342274" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKAcbFzimGXKQm304HYcP1fcqAaIVbPe8qJXX0hyphenhyphenxjEGjsyKnu90rUH9_iJfVRMMFcBsTdeSUpfqFLNkSG0Wu2Oej4qj55IAxoPUyLQorGdpkwdnrt8erFu-kyIPUnX4ReUU6CTD70pJI/s320/Bastille+Day+092.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631045978124711906" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJh9rspaqX7IR_dZqJbtP-oho9yH7pKeGCz4leAN6JIAqYwm-N_-UqQjJgUKfH1BfrRjV7tJNG-FG6b7jH85CI5biTibXzE_dQMROnTkFg0NCdmjBL3r71PedRWUpgBwkbAutwtoghWqk/s320/Bastille+Day+071.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631045964352580946" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheUr69VgHgr9FwyCfpWVvHu3QYpBUNr7VlGxgzfX0lU1ufb2qDxjfR3PH8W03dY3aV6vTLQYinijUA9pa_XcuMUMgCWOGZlDY9pP3IIyH6cH6elSNU2pSCTK1DCCUSaoyKnYQZxkBqJhs/s320/Bastille+Day+002.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631045965195389570" />
So today was Bastille day and there was a parade in the morning. Although i am not the biggest fan parades i went anyways and there was a lot of people, as i expected and more Parisians than i thought there would be.

However, i was suppose to meet some of our friends that we met in London, who are from Australia, but they don't know any french, didn't own a map, and had only been in Paris for 10 hours before they decided to meet us. So they were lost for a while, but we randomly found them in the metro going to the Champs Elysee. The parade was ok. not what i had expected because it was it was a military parade with tanks and guns and all branches of the army of France. But i did get to see Nicolas sarkozy, the president of France, which was very cool to me.

We had class in the Luxembourg gardens and a lot of french people were wondering what a large groups of Americans were doing sitting in a circle eating pie and talking about being french and flanerie. So then we went back to the foyer to regroup and decided what to do. And after a lot of uncompromising ideas we decided to go to another museum. d'orsay, the one we couldn't go to before.

It was nice but you couldn't take pictures. which held me back a little but i held it together. So we got some food and walked over the Invaildes, a place that we were going to watch the fireworks from the Eiffel tower because it is independence day in France. We met some of Esmee's friends there, who were french and they taught us that an American English accent speaking french is very cute. Something that is hard to believe to me because i don't think that English is the prettiest language let alone have an accent in french. This is probably because i have tried so hard to get rid of my accent in Spanish and Portuguese.

The fireworks were not as magnificent as i thought but they were going to be, but still nice. After it was over we walked the streets to try and see the base of the Eiffel tower. We did it and it was such an experience, part of the beauty of the night was the fact that so many people were on the streets that traffic had stopped and everyone just enjoyed the night. Although it was crazy, and i have never seen that many people in my life walking in the street, i wasn't scared or worried about getting lost or anything happening to me.

Paris has a weird way to making you feel a part of the city and peopleJessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-41368176471933661772011-07-13T01:54:00.000-07:002011-07-19T05:09:36.426-07:00Notre Dame<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS18TF62yVZiaw1Ms9pMj9XEKumX_N-olbsjExx9cRjTGnk6TGzJeLaxXyRlgALynISkRZLEMF5r8l3bBsLUkeSh_dDzknL54RJekYNRGqvMB_gAqfbWaTRL2q1xSsnXjramWijtu0U6c/s320/Notre+DAme+017.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631034423199004450" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Kvp23IKhP27dcTM6uGgTeMeSTaVrtorOfKUjQ8hdnq3ZJNbMck4d3oKxsiEZA3uXyB4mJEPKgm_TvEEkbECwCBwLswuTDyfkO-OPHKKrFc1b_xBUjRvOUqlXfEwmjvBX3rwxXEDYGIQ/s320/Notre+DAme+040.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631033807123323378" />
Today i didn't do a lot of the field work because there were a lot of tourists out because it was a sunny day. A lot of us were going to go the the Museum d'ordsay but the lines we outrageous. So the 2nd plan was to go to the catacombs but we didn't have the allowed time and rather than spend money to get on the metro and miss the entry anyways i just stayed with the group who pretty much had no idea what to do after we failed. So we sat on the steps of a very large building that was beautiful and must have had importance but i couldn't read the sign.

But i went home a little later and then walked to the Notre Dame to meet Oksana, Jasleen, Josh and their parents. They had been in Rome for the past week and then are in Paris for this week and going back to Rome for the 3rd week. We took a couple of jumping pictures in front of notre dame because we were excited!! It is one of the oldest buildings in Paris and we walked around the back to see the gargoyles and the park around it.

Afterwords i gave them a tour of the Latin Quarter, the Luxembourg gardens, the Sorbonne, and the Pantheon. They loved this side of Paris, as i do and i got to be the tour guide and not the tourist :)Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-49545822547063583072011-07-11T23:50:00.000-07:002011-07-11T23:50:00.422-07:00My first Castle :)<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2_wy1cYSRI0XBHlmMTb1zNsLTTRY0iytr_dqXADCGG81u464Nb3Zfyc_65j-gSiYMc9xPULVDP71r_5BhQAK-ifSDj73DywE0fznYR_tLw17UMOcSl-7MLgt4O3HMYJPNCygJuECzq7M/s320/Chateau+au+Saint+en+Laye+063.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628204087182697522" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4lH5fC57vpv6QQkgKv_O4G7Fm35PVEDbw77pQynHpWVi3PFpFk0wX2OFzs1zY1uexhbgihh-1RcJU0zf5ytAXOQpvlOzA7GF4sQTWOpBRlGRfZgxLsoYaBUwhMRhBgMHvtaRpi_6SERM/s320/Chateau+au+Saint+en+Laye+013.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628204080158573042" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRk46D19RMB0JJ65Jy8dgI-5P8T_Qta_CuyV8kokjbieYy1JQA83tr550quOjuh2wQsSXBSijGvg0qtNqxqYTu0O75Lan5t19-1MUIzitNagyXw281AmG3rHBPtWhoRReg6EaAOFllC0Q/s320/Chateau+au+Saint+en+Laye+073.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628204073342393586" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjas4uOR9zOwYu4ovHRzWVfr06pV1JO5O4CAXNORFjhWNyl9al6J2EJyLvLfiRRGLZmKiTA-PdkNBq4K-qC6R3cecOoLzS2kT2FN0ZG3GEbC65O1veJOOAz5ekDIrCnRwrhFM0LKg67Rf4/s320/Chateau+au+Saint+en+Laye+049.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628204068341369826" />
So Sunday was not as exciting as it should have been. We were suppose to see the catacombs which is i think a large underground area with a lot of skulls. I am not sure the history behind it but the line was super long and it was going to be at least 3 hour long wait so we decided to do it during the week when it wasn't so busy.

We walked around for a little but and then when to eat some crepes and then walked back home to the foyer. I took a nap because for some reason i was still tired. I woke up and then had another crepe for dinner, which was VERY good! it was chicken and feta cheese. Almost half of the program went upstairs to do some reading up on the terrace and the sunset was amazing. The Eiffel tower just looked unreal with all of the colors in the background. The bad thing is that only being here for a week i feel like i am getting a little used to Paris and being around all of this magnificence.

After dark, we all went downstairs and then studied a bit more and then went to sleep.

I woke up early today to go running in the gardens before class. However it was a little harder than normal, but i think that i need a little more protein because i haven't been eating at much meat lately because of the cost. A lot more bread and fruit, but i am not hungry, but have lost weight.

After class today we made our way outside Paris to visit a castle, it was called La Chateau du Saint Germain en Layee and was about 40 minutes away on the metro after a twenty minute walk. It was in a very cute little town that had a lot of cafes, shops, and food. I bought a cute shirt that was on sale and a couple others bought some clothes as well.

The castle was cool, it was smaller than i had thought but the outside looked very nice and we went to the inside of the castle and it was impressive as well. There was not a lot of rooms that we could enter that were anything but museums, but the exhibits were nice, a lot of historical artifacts from as far back as 2400 BC. The chapel was perhaps the most intact out of the whole castle, and it had amazing ceilings and architecture.

After coming home, Ivana and i made ourselves a little dinner and then she went out for a bit but i was tired so how i am just going to go to sleep :) Bonsoir ParisJessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-77466950437633842202011-07-11T14:09:00.001-07:002011-07-11T14:09:22.723-07:00My first Castle :)<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2_wy1cYSRI0XBHlmMTb1zNsLTTRY0iytr_dqXADCGG81u464Nb3Zfyc_65j-gSiYMc9xPULVDP71r_5BhQAK-ifSDj73DywE0fznYR_tLw17UMOcSl-7MLgt4O3HMYJPNCygJuECzq7M/s320/Chateau+au+Saint+en+Laye+063.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628204087182697522" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4lH5fC57vpv6QQkgKv_O4G7Fm35PVEDbw77pQynHpWVi3PFpFk0wX2OFzs1zY1uexhbgihh-1RcJU0zf5ytAXOQpvlOzA7GF4sQTWOpBRlGRfZgxLsoYaBUwhMRhBgMHvtaRpi_6SERM/s320/Chateau+au+Saint+en+Laye+013.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628204080158573042" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRk46D19RMB0JJ65Jy8dgI-5P8T_Qta_CuyV8kokjbieYy1JQA83tr550quOjuh2wQsSXBSijGvg0qtNqxqYTu0O75Lan5t19-1MUIzitNagyXw281AmG3rHBPtWhoRReg6EaAOFllC0Q/s320/Chateau+au+Saint+en+Laye+073.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628204073342393586" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjas4uOR9zOwYu4ovHRzWVfr06pV1JO5O4CAXNORFjhWNyl9al6J2EJyLvLfiRRGLZmKiTA-PdkNBq4K-qC6R3cecOoLzS2kT2FN0ZG3GEbC65O1veJOOAz5ekDIrCnRwrhFM0LKg67Rf4/s320/Chateau+au+Saint+en+Laye+049.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628204068341369826" />
So Sunday was not as exciting as it should have been. It was a very fun bar but you could barley dance because there was so many people there! funny enough that it started raining outside and i wanted to go out despite that because it was so much cooler there. They did play very good music though, and i am down to go back because it was a good atmosphere. I even walked there and back in my heels, i was very proud of myself :) with a group of 10 people both times, and Paris is a very safe city compared to where i have been in south America.

I slept in on Saturday as did most people. We went to a cafe and ate some food and i had a omelet, which was very good. However we tried studying.. it got interrupted because a gypsy women came up to Paul and tried to get him to read a piece of paper in Italian but little did we know she was stealing his phone. The whole thing did seem weird but most of us didn't think about it because we were reading and eating. So we ended up coming back home because it was cold outside and we were all kinda mad at what had happened. We studied for a while and then changed clothes to go to the park.

Tiffany and her fiance had a group of friends playing a game with silver balls that you roll on the ground to hit each other. I didn't play but it looked interesting. I talked to some french people... and what surprised me the most was the amount of languages that they knew. It is so common for them to know at least 2 and be able to hold a conversation in 3, it makes me look average, when in the united states, English is usually the primary language spoken among my friends. The European education is better than the American one i think. :/ and they paid 1,000's less.

A couple hours after the park closed we walked to a bridge where a lot of Parisians like to hang out, and me as i am terrified of bridges was very reluctant to go over it. Especially because one of the french told me that it was the oldest bridge in Paris, which made me a little more scared and less scared at the same time. Because it is sturdy because it lasted this long and also because it could break because it is so old. But i stood near the ends and on a post that was where i couldn't see the water. The french were very nice, the helped us learn french a little, and we spoke spanish and english as well. Even one of them did card tricks, which were very good! We came home a little late but i got to sleep in today :) and it is Sunday!Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-23135852736200643962011-07-08T20:00:00.000-07:002011-07-11T13:26:19.389-07:00Versailles<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwRURzKZ1-7MRY_tVpM8PryjrNBC-gjLBFlkdwQFUeiExSgadWkx3RlTvwIadZCNZW_oTlziXn596-H7GrDXXGUcjpK6ZPr0AGrZJCoxvfLB2GLYXnyWuxkNmnzyzPS0_4zhi0hy_dr7I/s320/Versailles+095.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628193577674446834" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJMlU28NFRnr1DoZ7WiB6dLfM-ekY0jEbz-_-qjwn1FVMVQHxfkaoTk9fdbY-EhKgVTiRChGI2FpMhQbjF9oDPC-_8QvmGxBcs13j_zJORembstNTpmQx36Y6E_MCUoj3JBZhCdywEtD4/s320/Versailles+170.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628193564319724722" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSf_xmh7NTBSmuAyYbuL39zRy5rpjJod80p3FmI7M4ld9JJDff570O-DINQniQOv8oYHcwLd7DhgcCB2QPmsr-mbwtjY_NeWpARrtffGojXTJ_RJuOSLOTOqI0dhh1KeaABW6lKuhhCLY/s320/Versailles_150E2toprs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628193558554996050" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiNOz_1yRXJaI0mnuvMyhpBXnGxyAWLkf4BaGyzTmPeLGjompKY2TRo5Dtzeo4rdvmBWTCd18YSatGep54cS4QeArsdAJxIBnJxQhUwOPOmF3RGmy_j3MpP5mhJt7XXbpC4NwredUmxqc/s320/Versailles+048.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628193551655096962" />
So today was a very productive day, i think. Last night i stayed in with a couple other girls from the group and we watched Marie Antoinette on one of the laptops. We were supposed to watch this because it has to do a lot with what we are talking about in our class. The Thomas Jefferson age when he came to France, was during the reign of Louis the XVI and Marie Antoinette. Anyways, so i had seen the movie before but watching it again got me more excited to see her estate in Versailles, France.

We got up fairly early to get ready to go because it is about 45 minutes outside of Paris. The weather was not the best in the world but oh well. So we arrived there after a couple of issues with the metro and which train to get on.

We went to the gardens first because the weather was getting worst and they closed earlier than the actual palace. They were very big and we spent most of the time walking to them. Miles and miles of fountains and greenery. However we made it to the little private estate the Louis had built for Marie in 1783 for her to "get away" and it was bigger than any house i have seen. :/ But the coolest and maybe the most interesting parts about Versailles was that Marie had a mock village built for her and her friends that later bought her kids as well. She wanted to pretend to have a "normal" life as a villager with a farm, and the buildings still exist today. We got to see them and there are real animals still there that are suppose to be from the line of the original ones that were there during her time. I don't know how true that is but it is nice to think it is.

It did rain for a little bit so we took refuge in the barn. It was funny and fun at the same time, because everyone else that was in the village went to the same place. WE walked back to the palace and sat along the rows and rows of stairs trying to soak it all in that this was someones home. Because we live in the USA where a monarchy never existed to the extent of France it is hard for us to imagine it.

Because it was getting windy we decided to go into the palace. It was a little confusing where to start because it was so big but i think that we saw all that we could see, or that was open. We walked into the different rooms and saw all of the furniture and beds that were still in the same condition as 250 years ago. The extravagance was amazing... everything was detailed in gold or silver. The colors were so vivid too, the bright reds, greens, pinks, and blues. We even saw the trap doors that Marie Antoinette had made so that her lovers could sneak into her rooms.

After seeing all of the dresses, clothes, and even some original shoes from the royal family. We even learned some more of the history of the family before we left, but since it was a long journey we all got something to eat before heading home. Some of my friends ate McDonald, i didn't, but Paul spent 17 euros there! The subway home was more crowded but we got home and then i took a nap. I am awake now but we are getting ready to go out... to an Australian bar, in France. First time out in France, let it be memorable!Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-68337255324362111662011-07-06T23:04:00.000-07:002011-07-11T11:17:29.518-07:00Walking Paris<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhv3QmAgRfC3GOscpXplwKn7cnzRSiuJedTpjrDeCFvxt0Uov_z2mXwLqSm23IrURM7fdJI6yVtFifahvdbjRDeBcCt7mLQrUqOj4dJqw9NfdtX1snr7JmCzD09gzGYQ6HAo14SAw3XIk/s320/Arc+de+triumph+and+the+eiffal+tower+115.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628160520825815970" />
so today my feet are dead... it is night time and i just got back from an epic day of walking. 7 hours!! crazy right? well i think so. anyways we didn't want to pay for the metro to get to the Eiffel tower, and the arc de triumph or the champs elysses. So is was suppose to be a 1 hour walk but it ended up being a a couple more than i had anticipated.

Chhavi, Yasi and i got separated from the group on the champs elysses because there were so many people. but it ended up being a good thing because if there were more people with us it would have been very hard to keep track of everyone. We saw a lot of expensive and nice stores but when we saw the Louis Vuitton store it took it to a whole new level. The store was lined with the vintage collections from he passed years and there was security like no other. So many pieces that i haven't seen before made me want to buy something. However, it would have been a hard thing to do!

We went to the end of the street where the ARC stands on its own in the middle of one of the biggest intersections that i have ever seen! It was so big, with so many cars driving around it. You have to go underground to reach it because it is so far from the sidewalk.

After taking pictures we made our way over to the Eiffel tower, where we did not end up climbing up because the lines were outrageous and it is about 38 flights of stars, 38 stories. And after all that walking we didn't have the energy. it was fun though, and i got to see a lot of paris today walking for so long and finding our way out of the crowds and on the back streets. As for now. i am going to sleep, and not going to run. my feet and legs will fall off.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-54594512650247453442011-07-05T23:38:00.000-07:002011-07-11T11:18:15.788-07:00River Boat Ride in Paris<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil0wqKn5e418rugnJFKVAe2CEhmJFVjHVIRIiRJhdosrGXn2najij7FIT4RCix1L3AzhaTjUNT_7Cv6ikbrsvKNm3m95MkRmB0UBqYWfvahG293EnPdRuFPRG1ktP_cx_JFrKRmTLk-DM/s320/Boat+tour+in+paris+081.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5626686913471957298" />
So it was the fourth of July and along i don't feel like it is a day of celebration in France, they are dong it anyway... but i think it is just how the french are..social animals.

Anyways we went on a boat ride down the river seine in the middle of Paris. Everything was so pretty at night and we were give free chocolate bread and cheese, a true Parisian thing to eat while you are enjoying the city. Boating along we got to see the main attractions of Paris and for the first time saw the Eiffel Tower at night, it was so pretty! What shocked me the most was how friendly the Parisians were as we went along the river. So many of them were just hanging out by the river and drinking, eating, and talking and they waved to us every time we passed a new group, even under the bridges.

On Tuesday we went walking through the Jewish quarter and looking at some of the streets that Thomas Jefferson had walked on when he was in Paris. They were almost not changed but besides the fact that there are cars and a lot more people, but the buildings are the same. The Jewish area was amazing. There was so much in Hebrew and many of the people thought i was Jewish.. which is a race that i have never been mistaken for. It was a new experience. The falafels were VERY good and i would go back there just for that! Anyways i have to get up for my morning run through the Luxembourg gardens and then tomorrow is a big day! Eiffel tower, Champs Elysees and the ARc de triumph !Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-65528749372562514222011-07-03T17:42:00.000-07:002011-07-07T05:55:40.173-07:00Je suis en Paris!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0mS8xZVdDXOhlvkV0GM7dHVjJvhCB4L7zSs8UWwd_OvzFx7-gpoBAcIDmQ6IuG8OoMmT07vsckC9auZOwDN3DCL1tp-j3C9n0zrBrO7oGGT3zvw7v65E4hAJY3vJ3_hZNjvSDPkEGezw/s320/Paris+begins+%252865%2529.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5626593017646922562" />
I just arrived in Paris yesterday after a awful tube ride to the street that the foyer is located. We left England around 3 and arrived in France at 6pm local time, because there is a one hour time change. It was rush hour at the underground so it was packed full of people and being tired after a trip didn't help at all either. The language barrier is okay... i mean i am not totally lost but it does help to have someone around who is fluent. WE finally got to the Foyer at around 8pm because of the traffic of people and had to immediately go to the supermarket to buy food for Sunday.

On Sunday's in Paris there is not a lot open and it will be hard to find food. So we stocked up. A huge market that had so much i was overwhelmed but it worked out okay and we went to bed around midnight. We woke up today quite early in order to go to the Louvre Museum because it is free on the first sunday of every month. It was the first time that i actually looked at Paris because yesterday i was so tired that i didn't want to take any pictures.

We took pictures in front of the famous triangle that is in the center of the palace grounds and with the mini arc de triumphe. Inside the Louvre is amazing.. there is so much to see that i must go back before i go to Spain. I also saw the famous mona lisa and the winged victory. I cant believe they have to many famous pieces of art, as well as the place itself being a peace of art. But we did get to avoid the line and get in the back way to the museum where there was nobody waiting nor guarding. It saved us about 2 hours of standing in the sunlight, which i really didn't want to do.

Afterwords we had our orientation for class, i am still not sure about how i feel about what the class is about or how it is going to be conducted. Either way i hope it is not a grueling it would be in the regular year, because i want to enjoy Paris and what it has to offer.

Exploring today was not exactly something that we could do because Parisians usually stay in on Sundays and everything is closed but we did get some reading done on the terrace of the foyer, where we are staying. it is beautiful, i still cant believe that i am here and with a view of the Eiffel tower. The food is so good as well... it feels lik i am in a dream. Europe is a place that i felt that i could never go, and never get to and now that i am here, i need to be pinched.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-35699627629825066492011-07-02T13:37:00.000-07:002011-07-11T11:19:18.779-07:00Transfer to Paris<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEPhJG6v0l0HtG-Z4k_jWGTlmFgwcxg0t22CBf5ppo9Lh9s4yd0BN-9lcLNRswG5mvcqMdGf8cqfOAZGImZo6zWulJOSguv_RZlkrnukunyTKgQPdCcKZ23gLnSiLqpGqWVlo4XZeB_HU/s320/Platform+%252844%2529.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628161012932459698" />
I am sitting in Starbucks waiting or Kay to come and say buy to me before i go off to Paris . I have been having a great time in London. I am for sure coming back one day! I feel like although the language is technically English, it is its own language in it of its own. So many words are spelling and said differently and even used it so many different ways!

We saw platform 9 3/4... but i feel like everything in London reminds me of the harry potter movies :)

I had the famous fish and chips. and they were very good! i liked them! walking everywhere is for sure going to make my legs stronger. I went to see all of the tourist things like the Palace, changing of the guard, tower or london, the london eye, and the london dungeon. All of it was amazing and parliament and big ben are huge! i cant even image what the building looks like on the inside.

We met some cool Australian people and they hung out with us wondering the streets of london. There accents are pretty cool and just as hard to understand as the brits. although we don't have a lot of British friends we had a lot of funny and fun times there. Comparing the differences between the 3 countries is funny.

WE are going out tonight and going to see london by night. i heard that the tower and big ben look amazing. We will see, and i want to go in a british taxi!Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-88581056459319907202011-06-28T01:30:00.000-07:002011-07-11T11:21:16.169-07:00arrival in London<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNqlGpS9xCRAuzAOuS2xJP2yh5ja8HIPSKwVhBF9skjtVwNRiRDLy2iYpdIJ_ehpkHhp_SXUaqAIm1K-aofr-yVlZnM_JSWAtUhb_r4Yh8FIfcdK0oZIKyITcuTc9EBx1aLOWrpUdTuJ0/s320/London+part+1+138.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628161527024787570" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP0U_a6axsuWdhofzQxAc_SshRMwJcCzaicg1pLf0iHIROaT1uP6tRBCZEIQO2qXvUETKohg_iwZfOdB4Ot2JYIlROxw5RiQ26zHmpgVvwmdP3ayqNZyguQ8CWG6ljM1ArdFtdBJZ0JIU/s320/London+part+1+024.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628161514624000146" />
Im in London! after 13 hours.. i finally made it! After one of the longest plane rides that i can remember i have made it to London. Not to say that it was easy. After our connection in Houston from sF we arrived in heathrow. Met the two others and then took the tube to st. pancreas which is where were got off to find out hostel.

TAking the subway (tube) for the first time was a little bit scary but we manged to do it and no one got hurt. We also found the hostel without a lot of problems. Then waited to check in and took turns finding food... which was close. Because we did almost the most Americans thing to do which was go to Starbucks or McDonald's.

We checked in and then showered and changed then walked around for some food and our first night in London we had falafels and then got lost around the train station and then came back. I ended up passing out at 8pm. But i was so tired that i needed it and hadn't slept for 2 days before that. I ended up sleeping for 13 hours too!Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-48133439781979340732010-12-07T03:43:00.000-08:002010-12-07T04:24:44.346-08:00100 days in Brazil... im coming home to the USA,<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEOgbabMttV9jySAkjf0gLiB76Sjf30aKCbbVwKA7sdliL7loddF5RXsdUx-RJfZmToKePafapFlcbzR7VkiRB1l_Ix2DdU2Jhf8JrXffjApLZzhUqojMpCRI68Prw5_-IuVnqCDDRG84/s320/154339_478186556305_581886305_5650783_7675534_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5547914214220221794" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiAh8wC0JOdhBh901Q9_gr_0L4t4j4aTT2unElNnpLQncRVM8RTjgUKrJuGbfINqCCj6jXvugVgXCNxcn9m9yDydlgovdp8r3nm9lOd0s-57rvn2zMEdYg4P63vvrTcCwmy5zZX_yc4L0/s320/Last+brazilan+beach+062.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5547914208411869906" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH-B06oFKr7Ry2K8wYFGv3TqAb38DcgpomnaWPHFArzflKBjyD7Z7nfIKun089MVdrQh_x_87THMYppgPXAyiIieRlCSC1nhUBkStYAwTXWGog1xZKkuQgtazjJrrt1VPp8kCR_SZ-YKg/s320/Goodbye+dinner+059.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5547914202397536754" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2KlEtd2xMh_DabFrdqhdBI8gtYt-XNo8jlm1xeAUXBctUbPTV0L8MHF9RM1tJyVt1J_n-bbDeaxQnpbUmDjiy5IaH9bKv8ivCcOdazITUMOYfFk7Wj4uRjWdjoKguMOqlPEgPfYpD5w/s320/Goodbye+dinner+040.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5547914195637002498" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEisNlSWD6LfSjlBZKDdjjqU-74UeloREHxFJqweZA5ocnIvJlakSHTvtvI3r3HtgNHxGyQbmLLH87qcXvB90wWMuPGIXbkWHhMXnWipUskbd8mQmTyuks-Q4otvBQaj9hyw5VDBIuVIo/s320/Plane+trip+home+039.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5547914189052720066" />
So i had a eventful weekend but it feels like i have lost 2 days during the process. I ended school and then i went to the beach all Friday day and Saturday as well to be able to soak in the Brazilian sun as much as i could before i left. It was awesome beach days and so much fun but sad saying goodbye to everyone.

Friday night was the goodbye dinner. It was nice and we all ate a lot of food, because it was a churrascaria, which is Brazilian for BBQ/buffet. My brother came with me and he got to speak English with my friends so he was a little happy it seems. Some people left right after the dinner to the airport and other places, but most of us stayed around and went out together. We all went to Garotas Cariocas and we got a discount because we had so many people, it was cool. We danced a lot with everyone from the group and then i went home at around 3am. Haley had to for sure be home by 4am because she needed to pack and be ready by 6am, so i hope she wasn't to tired because she didn't sleep, but that is how Brazilians do it. They don't stop.

Saturday morning Wendy and i got into the restaurant under the hotel that we stayed in the first day. I wanted to take a picture there like i did the first day and see the difference. Longer hair, lighter hair and dark skin. It was a cool difference and way to see Brazil when i knowledge i had gained over the past 100 days. Looking at the same place was weird knowing that when i last stood there i knew nothing. So afterwords we went to the beach and saw the last beautiful sunset of Brazil, the colors were amazing! I came home showered and tried to pack but then i wanted to get acai, so i did that and met up with Wendy, Alfonso, Bryant, Tiffany, and Matt. I am going to miss Acai, it is so good and so common in Brazil, unlike the US where it is so "special". So after i went home and packed everything up and ended up going to bed at around 2am and then woke up at 7am to get ready to leave at 9am on Sunday.

My Brazilian mom took me to the airport and said bye, she was sad and really wants me to come back, and i think that i really want to but be able to travel more around Brazil rather than to stay in Salvador. So i met Bryant and said bye to his host family and then we were on our own and on our way! We had to wait a long time for Bryant to pay some fee because his bags weighted to much and then we ate some cake and got on the plane to Sao Paulo. As soon as we landed it was like a different kind of Brazil to us. It was so clean and there were a lot of Asian (Japanese im sure) everywhere and it was just weird to see them speak such fluent and perfect Portuguese. We even checked in and it was difficult to understand the guy because he talked fast in a different type of accent, but then slowed down later. Then i went to the bathroom and then i came out and Erika runs towards be through the huge crowd of Asian people. I was so excited to see her! As we waited for Bryant we then ate pizza hut, which was amazingly better than in the united states! We then helped Erika check herself in at Delta airlines and then went off to wait for ours.

We then landed in Lima, as soon as we get on the plane, we then realize that this is going to be interesting. We had been unfamiliar with Spanish for a while and have been focusing so much on Portuguese that we are confused. We get off and he goes to ask the help desk a question and pauses and looks at me and we laugh because i know he was about to speak in Portuguese when the lady works for Lan Chile and we were in Peru. Then i had to go shopping. I love llamas and they were everywhere in Peru, i simply had to buy one. Afterwords i used bryant's laptop to talk to my parents and good thing that i did because they thought i was coming back on Tuesday, which would have been bad because i arrived on Monday morning. I would have not have wanted to wait another whole day to get picked up. But they figured it out and got me.

My plane ride from Lima to SF was 9 1/2 hours but i had an open seat next to me so i got to sleep most of the time which was really cool. I was excited because i have never got to do that on a long flight before. So i woke up in just engouh time to see the first sunset in the united states after being away for 107 days and get breakfast on the plane. I landed and turned on my phone, which i almost forgot how to work and called Kay. She beat my mom and dad to the airport so i got all of my luggage into her smart car and we met everyone at the breakfast place. My brother looks older, Stephanie looks taller and mom and dad look the same. But it was weird not to be able to talk about people and have them on understand in English. Hopefully ill get used to it again but not loose my Portuguese.

So here is where i end my travels, being that i am back in the United States, in California, in my bed, im no longer traveling and i am going to go back to my "real" life here and enjoy Christmas. I still feel like i am in Brazil because i went to bed at 4:30pm here and woke up at 3:16am and i was confused on why i was so cold, i thought i was still in Brazil when i woke up, in Brazil it would be 9:40pm to 8:16am. So i close with i love Brasil, it feels like a 2nd home that i can go, and i feel comfortable there, i am for sure going to go back and see the things i didnt get to the first time. Eu TE AMO BRASIL. TCHAU EU TENHO QUE SAIR AGORA.

Jessica Amber GuditusJessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-13054218531511608252010-12-03T04:19:00.001-08:002010-12-03T05:33:04.461-08:00Done with School!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoQZh7XNfsxNFpbOCGvVrZlXJXiOjS4pj4P2SJm_w4r0nyv16QDh6V7FM4bzxyEmwUa5-H3XhZr0sYdGIgYw7TxQRaf0djtoLcI-2S15zd7L0mH-2vEWL3P39EehbvU_lbgyvGKXyPoL8/s320/night+out+with+mae+036.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5546441282625793314" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIc2sfLX98QHYOFCS14WC0h0iiTGM64pz-lOD_ycF-OTFXQ74Dabzg_sDMus0g8vsZn2xYK0Vkg6Z-CZSK_Jw9RhRE6X4ZAmNJtq8x04p_fJ_QbCBimsdYn9eqw9OTPESv4Xc7vUoQ2j8/s320/night+out+with+mae+024.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5546441276348790722" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7FARajVKA79hrbNKNyiulJXGr05NojVgxfSpDBLRmMMXsPD2BuhmLa5muV9a_WVWlrJg_2GBnlMBN0F_H_ULhsbU8YVp7kPYs8cTTcekpeZB2Xf26QL6YUhdrudYIffx7ESGl1y4pLiE/s320/Last+week+065.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5546441273302475730" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwAJjwSo14zNHnpiLOX5Us2G3jWZ5Gc05S43KKDtP_h9myN5N4sUPTx8bP7JKE_rFveYpzrZZuiJH7CYHZz8wSfi-a3sb47S43zXxQ_TMlrAYOr2Xwv_lbHlIlHDINgJO87YVSWeme-vg/s320/Last+week+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5546441259020306066" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqX5gh0eJ7nr5q35lJJSnT3CjENWLAvmclVzZrQkBCBBqinPy8cTWHdA3OMYo_b_PDMvGr21li2WjLkevlUZapC5VPmDKOtpUCklnfCA4HP4H7C8gY9X6vxUAt1Mep-IWllipQNAU7GYg/s320/La.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5546441247955591570" />
Sorry i haven't updated in a while, the past week has been crazy busy with homework. I am sure that at least everyday i had something to worry about or study for. Monday was a bit of a small break, but i did have to study a lot. Sunday after the beach i came home and did my presentation notes and then Monday i did my presentation in Portuguese. I also went over to Matt's house to hang out with everyone and we were there for 5 or 6 hours just talking about really serious topics like War, Religion, and politics. I think that was the first real adult conversation that i have had with people my own age, it was kind of cool but also very difficult to stay with the conversation, being that it moved around so much and i didn't agree with everything. So after i went home i tried to knock out my culture class paper but i only did half. So Tuesday i finished it a little more and we had our Portuguese review as well as the culture class review. And on Wednesday we had the culture class final, where after 2 hours of continuous writing was finally done with a class that i had felt uncomfortable the entire time in. In the midst of trying to study for Portuguese that night for the next day i managed to finish my paper. So yesterday at 12pm i was done!! finally the quarter that felt like it was forever (because it actually was a semester)was over and i was done! I have never felt so good to be done with a period of school, but so sad at the same time to leave my new friends and beautiful country.

Yesterday i went to the beach after class, it was so fun, we took funny pictures, ate picole, and went swimming again. I really like the beach and it is kind of sad to think that i am not going to live so close to it ever again. I wanted to go out to celebrate, but nobody really knew what they wanted to do so we all just went out to Rio Vermelho and hung out there, but over the next hour and a half we tried to find something to do while walking back and fourth between places. Mollie and I ended up going to the bar that my mom and my maid were at and it was really cool! And my maids husband played the guitar in the band too! It was really nice to see her one last time before i leave, . She was so nice and was always helpful too. I hope i get to see my other maid Vanessa, but i don't know where she is, maybe at my grandmas house.

So my mom and maid apologized for my brother girlfriends behavior towards me during the trip last night. I never said anything to anyone expect to my friends in the program but it was still nice that they noticed i felt uncomfortable. But my mom said that she is just possessive and even though Paulo (my host brother) tells her and doesn't like me in any way more than a sister, she still doesn't believe him. And although it was weird at times being totally ignored, i still managed to have a good relationship with my brother. I hope he comes to the united states, he would love it there!

Well even though i slept about 4 hours, my eyes feel tired, but my body doesn't. So i hope my beach day is productive and i have a wonderful going away dinner today ! It works out though, my dad hates it. But this year instead of eating turkey and stuffing left overs, i am going to the beach and going out to clubs and dancing to Brazilian music. It has been such a different feeling around this "fall/winter" because i have been experiencing a "spring/summer" here.

On Friday i went to the mall with Rebbecca and Haley to get some stuff and it was a Santa's village theme. It was cute, but i thought there were some things that where just a little off and weird. First there were 2 Santa's, but they were fake and in their robotic voices they were giving a tutorial about how to make chocolate cake. Then they had fake reindeer's that had saddlebags of chocolate, but it looked like poop. They also had lamps/ chandeliers that had fake cakes on the top of them. Then i saw the real Santa" and although he had a real beard, he was on a cell phone, while the kids were in line to see him, last time i checked, Santa didn't have a cell phone, and he had a wife name Mrs. Claus. I am not sure if Brazilians do Christmas right here. Later Mollie came over and we ate popcorn and watched inception. Which is a really good, but confusing movie.

On Saturday i did some work in the morning and then Mollie and i went to the beach, it was kind of a cloudy day, so we didn't get to see a sunset.I took a run in campo grande, for the first time at night, and it wasn't that bad, although i am still scared of the dark. Later about 12 of us went out to a club called Garotas Cariocas, which means in English, sexy people from Rio de Janiero. We took the bus there, which was fun because with 12 Americans and a girl playing lady GAGa, we sang and everyone looked at us, but it was all good. It was a really fun place! It was 15 rieas to get in and we stayed till 4am. The Band that we saw, was our 4th time seeing them, named Os reis da Festa, kings of the party. They know who we are by now, but its awesome because i really love there songs and when they left i stole their play list. Muhahaha. I got a ride home with Marisol's brother, and he didn't stop anywhere like he usually does, so it was great. It would have been an expensive taxi ride too, so i got home at 5am and i only spent R$20, it was a success.

Today i had plans to go to Itaparica or a different beach, but it didn't work because we got home so late, we all woke up late. So Haley Mollie and i went to Mercado Modelo, but it was closing so we just went up to buy ice cream and then went to the beach in Barra. It was sunny and nice today, we got there kind of late so it didn't last long, but i got some cool pictures of the sun today. Anyways now i have a Portuguese presentation, Culture class paper, Portuguese Final, and a Culture class final in the next 4 days. Sucks i have to study a lot in my last week here in Salvador.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-4885369286858334922010-11-25T18:40:00.000-08:002010-11-25T19:06:18.063-08:00Americazilan Thanksgiving<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTqlHrOmllhlgZJYlkqVqGXKb5CbxhN2iEaFi-BJ9j-T1esLsWmK3Ug0xAZqTNqhR_sXlM_4O-CJhMnuFbIJSS236ozw5CCmq860Y1JPrIY6r4czXDyMiFkYkrqbwVe6Inx9shKtFIwzY/s320/Thanksgiving+brasiliiero+075.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5543689194615035202" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG8TkKxc98mCKmW134zNM4mki5LDOJA88El8Mww06D4gWAMGiMO7XXYULYFHVGgconvUsEygD78MjUE8mEL-UkYADNYP85abrFnimTfgupN1NrkjNy2mmNA8KWFTxjTrFGRoxccvjxUB4/s320/Thanksgiving+brasiliiero+030.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5543689191034230866" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPcG4_m-0J_IWCj0pUNuBgZ1YVNdVIPMdZ5cNTTYk97u5y0-ZvfGxnlmEouuIjr6cQtj20YOTKSvPesrUfbqROufZlqNXFT4J9bZwzxZ_9ACZW27t-_eyuYGoBZijt48MJ2NEusqWmkhM/s320/Thanksgiving+brasiliiero+020.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5543689188407835330" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFPB_2x1AF7gU77kuNlq62FeRCbfZXhNWXEPGaHm2xJ9-bmeV9yODBskb7hoBfQqBq68KWmYvOPDFNBzwjkHDS1aaDONy8PeL-avfWHZEVKcKXzfVZxVGqlP-E9t3NyPzr9gJddykP-hk/s320/Thanksgiving+brasiliiero+076.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5543689179516470162" />
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Its thanksgiving here in Brazil as well but just 5 hours earlier! Its okay when i was done with dinner and dessert, my family in the states was just getting ready. The first thanksgiving without my family, but with all my new and wonderful friends in my program. So we decided that we really wanted to have the holiday for us still, because it is a American holiday (even though it has many flaws pertaining to the indigenous tribes of north American) we Americans wanted to celebrate it as we do at home. So even thought we lacked many ingredients that we have access to in the states, we did what we could and made it work.

I made stuffing from scratch, my first time, and it was amazing. The worker at the store thought i was a little weird because i wanted to buy stale bread to use as breadcrumbs, and tried to get me to buy the soft kind, but it was all good and i got it. Then sauteed carrots and onions and with some chicken broth, oregano, and seasonings, it was perfect! I also tried to make yams (or a yam-like dish), Yams don't really exist here, so i used carrots and boiled them and put brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter on them. They were yummy too. Matt's dad got us a turkey and made the party so fancy and legit. He got out his good silver, and even insisted that we transfer some of the food into prettier bowls than the pots that we made them in. We even found sparkling cider. Overall it was a wonderful collection of food, everyone brought something and everyone was full and happy. For dessert, Haley even made homemade cookies. Even though when we were cooking in her kitchen, her maid was a little confused on what you do with it, and thought it was some sort of pancake and flipped it over and was going to put it back in the oven.

We even listened to Christmas music on my ipod, it was almost like i was home, besides the fact that it was hot and i was wearing a summer-like dress with flip flops on. Although this holiday gives us a reason to think about the things that we should be thankful for everyday, I am really so grateful for this opportunity, every time i go abroad i feel better about myself because i feel like i learn so much every time and that i should be truly grateful for the things i have in my life, and i am. Happy thanksgiving.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-29520778172198889992010-11-24T14:23:00.000-08:002010-11-24T15:00:02.194-08:0090th day in Brazil<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJhpcmVMYYBkJ0x4Ity-pazdMt0bNy5PEmGitBcCUZiK6aiM4p77PZGNvd2dW5sPmGhBGSOv_VdaXX-hlaibXflKRfaP2_NLuG5sqaTJxu3NMlHcuC3fKK9SiB3deia9gi1bbNkakQNf4/s320/Sakofa+finale+088.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5543254837272308002" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2UViEBAeu6PfU94sUSgC7TdFR5UdxhiaVJSNy-bLFF3RMUy9I4bZ-vvR5AuNXuf4-C3zl82hIV_dgY-N2PuU6FHv5lClvJogqhDsyg3BODswOux3Tz6lsGw3vV9iLXEmgm6W_qVYfZdA/s320/Sakofa+finale+040.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5543254830637046178" />
Just a few moments ago Mollie reminded me that today is our 90th day in Brazil. I cant believe that i just spent the last 3 full months here, it has been amazing. I always under estimate the experience of living abroad. I think this is the last program i will do during college unless i do a summer abroad, but i want to travel soon after. I always get the travel bug after being away from home, even if it is always nice to come home after being away.

I know my sister is excited for me to come home because she wants her presents and wants me to make her food, because she is sort of incapable of making her on food, and that is why she eats chevy's a lot or making Joe's Crab shack has changed her and she now eats seafood, who knows. No, wait it is Stephannie, she isn't eating seafood. Although i do miss a lot of the food from the United States and am not that excited about that as i am to have to availability to work out and get back in shape. I have been wearing shorts and dresses for the last 3 months and now i need to go back to my jeans.

Yesterday we tried to have a little flashback reunion and go to Pelourinho and dance like we did the first week we were here. The first time was fun we all danced and got to know each other, and this time i wanted everyone to be like that again and just have fun. But because we have been here for 3 months, groups have formed and people that are closer to each other hang out with each other. And there is more of a division among the group. It sucks but it always happens, but i think it was a good effort, a lot of people went to Pelourinho, but not everyone went into the bar like we all did in the beginning. It is kinda suiting because i wanted it to feel like the beginning all over again, because i don't want it to be over. But the reality is, is that it is ending, and it will be over and it couldn't have been like the beginning because its the end.

The tourist season is coming in the Brazil and many Brazilians think that we have just arrived, but we have been here for what seems like forever, and we have grow comfortable and familiar with the city. There is a huge difference from visiting a place than living in it. You actually feel like you live here, and not totally out of place.

Tomorrow is thanksgiving, and it is going to be the first thanksgiving that i haven't been with my family, it will feel awkward but i don't think it will be that bad. I will miss some of the food that we cant get here in Brazil. But we are going to have a thanksgiving at our friend Matt's house and we will be all together so that it will be fun and we'll give thanks for having this wonderful experience all together, happiness and health. :)Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-50517529809287851942010-11-23T09:06:00.001-08:002010-11-23T09:35:59.886-08:00Free stuff in Brazil... a miracle.<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZu7K9PCc3dxwmJGvnxjIWP2jOpN8fQq-cnZcK6p3CKXjK9XCSZeC6BhZyxq2JBqq9889kQ9i7K-qIb1-5fDb_nWWqqvz7FLgWKOjrI4dO0Ewrxzf9m9qUfGa6XiI2_TBoNTKZ0PRW3fw/s320/Pelorinho+meuso+druming+030.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542799279232766546" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhyphenhyphenNpeFyHP7v6RWyBLOA6xt6mJB7EBW1JTgGG2WIse1bcN96pFPiKI78gfJTJrB74V9EzrmnsWxNMLcC-s_9_eST5n-yCi4Nk_928wC0uI-tpDkVF8trXaB7obtO1nxhAtM8uOM-G7pj8/s320/Pelorinho+meuso+druming+100.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542799260642874642" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinCDeQnbF8Kgm_hNJZyh6l03FMsMUUMZwFbZZGij_Gh1t8tXaGNsgbh0JrO86A7kdIYhbOtYKpvToREi6EUXMCf_Q8LJVZ9z1YlqwuO43z8FvwE825SucZAZxWUT9JRqSwsyX5WPejxoU/s320/Pelorinho+meuso+druming+083.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542799246091695634" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyDptGPogi6mH7L_6_Z2F74kBYxaRb_YGq3BS8jDN0WVygoWdNo1Z6MYPyYOusnCb0_hzl0vXRjWb0lMWYFMbo-ZZO-ZyWuTXdHJTSFx0RkpVEjeBcTRkA8sPL3rm1nJvROU5u6B3jBhM/s320/Pelorinho+meuso+druming+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542799130029861490" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihToAu0LCg0TdEhGodl6Qu9wtO-fDjTlKNdD2O0ExtSHCxVfREXSpW5Rpws7Ry3wKLqUWM73VP6wklvKcoplhiVs5ScbCNBV1TfRjiUBXHUSYBmDs_nuJbWw_9OLpk5hdXl-hStfnJxu4/s320/73868_1491079950616_1042500764_31320733_6431889_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542799121524290370" />
So i woke up today at 8:30, so the plans that i had to go running in the morning failed, so i decided to wear my running clothes to school so that i would have some kind of motivation to exercise. It worked but i always feel lazy during the middle of the day, and i only did a mile and a half, but my legs are sore, so that's a good sign i believe. I had i good lunch i think, my mom wasn't home so i didn't eat rice and beans but just the chicken and a bunch of veggies. YAY!

Yesterday i stayed up late because i was studying, but i had a fun night a bunch of us went to pelourinho to see a new museum open and there was drumming and bahianas dancing. I got some good pictures. Also there was free food and drinks, which is almost a miracle because i have come to the realization that nothing is free in Brazil. But we didn't even pay to get it, crazy to me. Most of us got ice cream before, i tried not to, but Bryant insisted that we share, and the brownie flavor was just to tempting. Good thing i wasn't holding it, because i could have eaten it all. We got Acai afterwords around 8pm, which is something that i am going to miss here in Brazil, its amazing how good it is, and i hope it is as good for you as they say it is because i think something that tastes that good cant be that good for you, it just isn't logical. It fills you up though, i didn't even eat dinner. The only bad thing about that place (where we got the acai) is that it smells awful, the location is horrible, it is near trash or something, im not totally sure.

I had a composition in Portuguese yesterday, i think it went okay, i did better than i thought i was going to do, meaning that i finished within the time limit and didn't stare at the paper for the first 30 minutes thinking about what to write. The book i am writing on is less than interesting though. Or i guess i could say that it just isn't a story that i would want to read. It is about a young poor girl living in the favelas of rio who only eats hot dogs and she is dirty, skinny, and unloved. And in the end she goes to a fortune teller (because she realizes that her life sucks) and then after the teller tells her that she is going to have good luck in the future, she gets hit by a yellow mercedes benz and dies! Awful story right!?

Tonight we are going out to Pelourinho again to go to the salsa club one last time all together, i hope everyone goes. It will be so fun to hang out with everyone one last time before we all go back to our real lives and next week we have to study because it is finals in both classes. I also have a paper due in Portuguese, where i dont know my topic yet, also a presentation due in Portuguese about that awful book.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-69675758481931386472010-11-21T15:41:00.000-08:002010-11-21T15:56:00.041-08:00Reggae and Birthdays<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtLPgkMRIjTQiBIN7ZfpqiJzXrCBzSjs4gfCIUbfxSwY_CswYtqF1ZFFrkUwa7qe6kfIPqz2pd3p82FIepfrrZChaMKw_LTKWOARAnXu9edDcE-QgX8LdjYKzMqgH0tSzDHaMSNutVD48/s320/155485_1489268385328_1042500764_31317398_6528477_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542155943442042274" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4S8xddezzoh23khDGIPGzuvM-BKcNjM5IArGrPB8BpM_zNuKZSS6PPLj5MR7iirX5qEiG472iCV7Zx3wY_B79a-0b9h1YSZwIql0RZk6nFQ4o7aJhNxX7lj9Xr48UpWQniTCFeI2XuM4/s320/73982_1489265145247_1042500764_31317382_1729047_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542155940798870674" />
So yesterday i didn't go to the beach as planned because we were suppose to leave early to this reggae concert, around 3 or so, because the doors open at 5. Anyways before that i studied a little and went on a run and discovered that it was Black awareness day here in Brazil, it was nice to everyone in the streets dancing. So although there was a party going on in the day in Campo Grande, where i run, the real party was where i went. The reggae concert, which is the biggest reggae concert in all of Latin America, impressive huh? After i was on the bus for an hour and a half, we left at 5 because Brazilian time is always later than they say, and got there around 630 and it still hadn't started yet. So we chilled outside and ate some street food and took some pictures, it was fun about 20 of us went to the concert it was fun to have a lot of the group there. So we entered around 730 and they started at 8, 3 hours after the scheduled time said on the ticket!

So anyways, inside, there were so many people, i don't think i have ever seen that many people in one place at one time, it was crazy! and everyone was so happy and excited to be there. We made our way up to the front of the stage so that we could see the performers and surprising it was easy to get there! But as the night went on it was hard to walk in and out because more people would try and push there way though and it was very hot, and sweaty. I took a shower as soon as i got home. But my back started to hurt so i sat down for a while and went back in and then i couldn't handle it anymore, i needed to go home because i felt like i couldn't stand or walk anymore. Even though i left around 240am the main band hadn't even come on yet and there were 4 more to go by the time i left. Brazilians know how to party HARD!

So this morning i woke up and i had no idea what time it was, my window was closed so i couldn't tell from the brightness of the sun, but it was 12:20pm! So even though my day was cut short i decided that 1 week without going to the beach in Brazil was unacceptable, so i went with Haley and we eventually met up with Chuy and Alfonso. It was a chill day and my mom made really good steak for me. So now i have to figure out how i am going to write a composition in Portuguese class tomorrow on a book that is in Portuguese that i don't quite fully understand. wish me luck!Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-24630876053529691852010-11-20T07:10:00.000-08:002010-11-20T07:16:19.032-08:00Harry Potter !<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg99XAOqG_fe_Ubm-IOuNoG5Pr7al3tH_N0IBrLBXqkfGhOjoOn3rvnEhSZtZO4wAGgOo5wjzcVZyoHYUXsUMIuPd1LBMRSpB-S7qSRo3l363xZj0dJGnWSOHhpL2Uuz5O0GixNbnwg66w/s320/haleys+festa+011.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5541650794191062066" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDCIw9cki2oRHRtwE75u0xVpFi5mIoexQJFmwZASlhYrl8-rxHtdnqunhtL1-4qlEvgVjaZmDE0FnJN6DhONcS43p0hGCixZor62l2Mh6_NHrO-TGW8YtpIF4c4-iTF_XJcvVXG2Hbzwo/s320/Whats+up+part+2+055.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5541650791973548818" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNvpSA3s5QQrfyTBxXVU7HeGP02N78B2Zz0qvOmisqiL_JNMQyd-C304wRI4tbdIwhempc9zeA89ag4MVREr1MOYYSgeUh5eLWW2PS756Hg8AUUiagSySy0J3jFlSm5Ltcn7xuKgIBY6s/s320/75793_453593161510_551506510_5906785_162476_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5541650782632670674" />
written on 19 November.

So I really should be studying this weekend because I have a final in culture coming up soon, and am Portuguese final, composition, and project due in the next 2 weeks, but I can’t bring myself to stay in my room when it is sunny and nice outside. This week of school went very fast to me, because we had another holiday on Monday and then a walk out on Tuesday to protest fee increase, which they passed for the upcoming school year, so when I get back to Davis, and I going to find a way to get out of there as fast as I can to avoid any more increases to come. So Thursday came fast, which means the weekend has started. After school about 5 of my friends and I went to Mercado modelo to go shopping, and I can say that I am totally done! Yay. Too bad I am going to have to pack accordingly to make everything fit, and not to mention I am going to have to where my winter clothes to the airport in Brazil, where I am sure I will get looks while wearing a fur coat and pants in the middle of the Brazilian summer. Oh well, I know that San Francisco will be cold when I arrive at 7am on December 6.

That night, about 12 of us went out to the club called “whats up”, it was fun and I am really learning how to dance like a Brazilian. Although if I dance like this in the United States I think I might get some weird looks. But oh well, Bahia Brazil is such a dance culture, that if someone starts to make a beat, someone close will start moving their body. I am learning to words to the songs to, so I can sing along and pretend to be Brazilian, until they realize that I have a Spanish/English accent in Portuguese and with that I am not really Brazilian. Well the night ended odd. We got a taxi and he stopped to get gas (which was my first time in Brazil, getting gas at the gas station) and then the driver went the wrong way on a one way street and go pulled over by a cop and got a ticket. It was certainly an experience; the cop was even trying to hit on us…awkward.

Friday morning I woke up and got ready to see my favorite series of movies. I think I was showing my inner nerd (although it is outer as well) to my friends by recapping the harry potter movies. I don’t remember when I read the last book, the 7th, but I know that I read it twice, and it was very good. And this movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, parte 1, was one of the best ones out of the series. I rode on a bus sweating and afraid to touch the seats because of germs for one hour there and one hour back to see this movie, for R$8, 5 US dollars. It was interesting seeing Portuguese subtitles and I think my friends and I were the only ones in the theater who didn’t need to read them. Either way it was very exciting, and I am sure I will go and see it again in the States.

Afterwards we had a little festa (party) at Haley’s house. It was so cute; her mom put out snacks and set the table for us. We had about 7 people over and ate pizza, acai, ice cream, and chocolate cake. Her mom made and bought us all food, they are such a god host family, and it was so cute. There were small spoons, plates, and knifes too. Then we just hung out and talked about school, and our lives back in the States and waiting to see how the transition from our Brazilian life here, and back to our real life at home.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-34818825208548298652010-11-16T08:55:00.000-08:002010-11-16T09:09:51.983-08:00DOWN with the fee increase!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9YdCXosFB39knCHaMfOIY-dtyQEj_eR-MtJUPR5MLtvFq3NSXhidYs7HEbP2eD7SwEZ4fkvYHxbu49jP2HatMipGPznhKAQaRijezOmLs5HVDGloz25KEO6d1UHgA2R2KPF2DQ4k4cX4/s400/UC+FEES+increase.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5540195859102083474" />
So today is a day of resistance throughout the Universities in California to be against the fee increases. The tuition is going to increased by 32% in all universities. This is not only going to prevent many kids from enrolling into college but it is going to prevent those who already in college from deciding to go abroad and experience the world, as many of us are here. This takes away so many opportunities that can benefit and help them in their lives and those around them. There has been so many of them to compensate for the government spending. Although many people did not like President Bush, he never spent this much money, Obama has spent more money in his first year in office and Bush Jr. did in his entire term, all 8 years. It is ridiculous how much money is charged to students who are trying to get an education. 40 years ago, so many of the schools were free, or little money was need to be paid by the student, now many students have to work to just stay in school, and get loans that they will probably be paying well into their 30's. That is if they are not "special" in some way to receive financial aid threw grants and scholarships.

Maybe the meeting that we are going to have today, ABROAD, will show the UC's that their students are speaking out and trying to show their dis concern, even if we are 4500+ miles away from the school, it still effects us here. We are all wearing blue to show our solidarity together with the same ideas. We are paying more, but getting less. The trips that were promised to us had been canceled, and we have to pay for transportation to and from school activities, it is not right. We are paying to much money to have the experience taken away from us, lie it has been. One day education will be the most important thing, but as for now, our world is not like this. Charge Charge Charge is the only way the think will make everything better.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8090698027246879538.post-68396140245203592102010-11-15T12:53:00.000-08:002010-11-15T13:22:25.044-08:00I couldnt live in salvador during january..<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUY3TUBKEe9TVx3O_zrsCiI56vGqv55BnoyZQQV5elwLZyncGz0B31cHBqtwlrsksjB5O3kFA0I0ix2RjSuUqn6rpOm4L64UghAJ-BlpB5kS7ThW_8EbChkaiCiMEu2ZDzzgNtaSN7GPA/s320/Beach+008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539889813186958578" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm3A2F-gyJZYKH9nSXA04ZstuzRBVOqQppHru_XsMDxI1mDS13yXDYZdltYyrIw8tWF68Zp2FDShCmmoveUzz3wSgqs6p7l0fOkRYmUbY3YE5PbvaWroJ6pNMBNATLfl2Wc-zlH1SJ-ps/s320/Christmas+in+Brazil+027.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539889796769322882" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI_E2ZfFHxTu_3jn1kpXCj0qq36Nx7aWKmB4itU2sxPm9o5g0l9J_CqloLeHtLGpJy-DGCxlRci3pPDay3TJAoZrRP_cwrF7sNK6FaJz_Rqkf1jBfcXw21krdsgnrPsBRUrMZE02icbx8/s320/Christmas+in+Brazil+011.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539889791450055218" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFpJno11okofRvBuSxV0U4kJ8TLKinpkUfKY9IvWounGqspUQIeToVQACNFNKOTH1TCjm-ZxaJoX_awYRa9TWmn5Pb_XQP_gQfEmSqLNT9clY-OgsNOdau8USoQyPU22xVh7tSMwzSzEw/s320/Beach+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539889785101548690" />
It is Monday night, and i didn't have school today, it was another one of Brazil's many holidays. I went to the beach today with Haley and Mollie, we tried to go to porto da barra, but it was crazy crowded, the most i have ever seen it, i cant even imagine it in the summer, believe it or not we are only in spring. I am sweating all the time, it is gross. Because i will take a shower, and then sweat as soon as i get out. Same with the beach, go into the water and then when i get out im sweating and the sand is sticking to me everywhere!

i also went to the mall again yesterday with Ashley and we soon discovered that this mall was decked out in Christmas decorations as well! so even though Christmas in Brazil is not cold with hot chocolate and scarves, the decorations do not depict this, Santa is still wearing a huge red coat and all of the trees and ornaments still have fake snow sprayed onto the them. Although they had a lot of Christmas decorations in many stores, it was almost impossible to find a Santa hat, but i found one after searching for about 2 hours. And now i just have to take my Christmas picture at the beach with my red bathing suit on and my Santa hat. I love Brazil and everything, but i am glad that i am going home for Christmas, i don't think i could believe it was really Christmas until i see all of my grandmas super old Christmas house and figurines and my dads Christmas goofy and bears that only see daylight for about 2 months a year, my mom many many Christmas pictures of my little brother by the tree and all of the dogs in our family with their Christmas gear on, oh and not to forget about the Christmas lights! even if they are left up till June, it still feels like the holidays. And right now it doesn't feel that way, unless i want to spend A LOT of time in the mall.Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17367349748223345911noreply@blogger.com0
